An EPOS system that talks to the back office
Connect the till you already run and your sales start depleting stock, shaping next week's rota and filling in the cashup. Our own till, ZynthioEPOS, is in build — and this page is honest about which half is which.
Zynthio is built in Scotland for UK hospitality — pubs, restaurants, cafes and multi-site groups.
Available today, and in build
Plenty of EPOS websites describe a roadmap in the present tense. Here is the split, plainly.
EPOS integration with your current till
- Toast connected by OAuth, syncing every five minutes
- Daily and hourly sales, top items, per site and across the group
- Sales-driven stock depletion through recipe mapping
- Rota suggestions built from your own sales history
- Takings pulled into the daily cashup instead of retyped
ZynthioEPOS, our own till
- Running with pilot sites, not yet on general sale
- Card is taken on your existing standalone machine for now
- Browser-based, so it runs on the tablet you already have
- Existing Zynthio customers get access first
Most tills are an island
A modern till will happily tell you that you sold four hundred and twelve pounds of pizza last Tuesday. What it will not do is take those pizzas off your stock, tell you whether you were overstaffed for that trade, or fill in the cashup. So somebody prints the Z-read and types the same numbers into a spreadsheet, an inventory sheet and a cash-up book. Three retypes of one true number.
Zynthio's position is not that you should throw the till out. It is that the till's sales should land somewhere useful. Connect Toast today and the sales you have already made start doing work: depleting stock down to the leaf ingredient through your recipes, shaping the staffing suggestion for the same day next week, and pre-filling the day's cashup so the manager checks a figure instead of transcribing one.
Where a connected sale ends up
- Stock: the recipe is exploded to ingredients and deducted with proper unit conversion — a 175ml glass comes off a 750ml bottle as 175ml
- Rotas: hourly sales become the demand curve behind the staffing suggestion
- Cashup: takings by tender arrive in the daily cashup for the manager to confirm
- Reporting: weekly site and group rollups, emailed, with labour against sales
The till we are building for UK venues
A pub till and a restaurant till are not the same animal, and neither is a coffee shop. ZynthioEPOS is being built around the things UK operators actually do all night: tabs behind the bar, moving a table, splitting by seat, and a kitchen that needs the order the second it is rung.
Floor plan and tables
Rooms and areas you lay out yourself by dragging tables. Live table states, covers, walk-ins, joining tables, transferring a table, converting to a tab.
Ordering built for service
Colour-coded category grid, item search, modifiers with price deltas, per-line seats, a canned message library, and the fourteen statutory allergens as a separate field printed in red on the ticket.
Kitchen display
Bump, hold, recall and fire, with prep-station routing so cold larder is not reading the grill's tickets. Runs as its own terminal role on a spare screen.
Offers that price themselves
Combos, multibuys, category percentages and fixed-price menus, constrained by day, time and date range. The offers engine prices correctly even with no internet.
Offline ordering
An append-only event log on the device keeps service running through a broadband drop, then syncs. Printing is the exception — printers pull jobs from the cloud, so that needs a connection.
Drawer, X-read and Z-read
Drawer sessions with float carry-over, paid in and out, safe drops, shift reports and an end-of-day pack. The Z-read posts itself straight into the Zynthio cashup.
Permissions that hold
Eight controllable actions across four tiers, PIN elevation for a supervisor override, and every permission re-checked on the server rather than trusted from the device.
Clock in at the till
Staff clock on at the till and it writes a real attendance event into Zynthio HR — the same record that becomes their timesheet. Not a separate list to reconcile.
Stock off the sale
Closing an order depletes stock to the leaf ingredient, portion-accurate and void-aware, and can auto-86 an item on the site menu when the last one goes.
What ZynthioEPOS does not do yet
Integrated card payments are not available on live sites, so card is taken on your existing standalone terminal and recorded on the bill as an external card payment. Printing requires an internet connection. There is no stored-value gift card or loyalty balance management (a gift card can be recorded as a tender), and no delivery-platform integration.
We would rather you knew that before a demo than after an install. If none of it is a blocker for your site, we would like to hear from you.
EPOS and till questions
Can I buy the ZynthioEPOS till today?
Not yet. ZynthioEPOS is in build and running in pilot, and we would rather say so than sell you something that is not finished. You can join the waitlist and existing Zynthio customers get access first. What is available right now is the EPOS integration: connect the till you already run, and its sales flow into Zynthio's stock, rota planning and cashups from the same afternoon.
Which EPOS systems does Zynthio connect to?
Toast is live today. An org admin connects their own Toast account through a standard OAuth login, maps each Toast location to a Zynthio site, and sales sync every five minutes with a manual refresh available. You get daily and hourly sales, top-selling items, site-level and whole-group views, and a sync audit log. Other tills are on the roadmap. If yours is not connected yet, takings can still be entered on the daily cashup by hand and everything downstream works the same.
Does the ZynthioEPOS till work offline?
Ordering does. The till holds an append-only event log on the device, so ringing items, sending to the kitchen, voids, discounts, offers pricing, cash and external-card payments and closing bills all keep working when the broadband drops, then sync when it comes back. Printing is the honest exception: printers collect their jobs from the cloud, so receipt and kitchen printing needs a connection. Order state is also per terminal today, so a second till does not yet see the first till's open tables.
Does it run on Android tablets and phones?
ZynthioEPOS runs in the browser, so it works on an Android tablet, an iPad or a Windows till provided it has a modern browser and a reasonable screen. It is not a native app you install from the Play Store, and it is not part of the Zynthio staff mobile app. Handheld ordering and kitchen display run the same way, as terminal roles you assign when you pair the device.
How are card payments handled?
Today, on your existing standalone card machine. The bill is settled in ZynthioEPOS as an external card payment, so the tender split, the drawer session and the Z-read still reconcile properly at the end of the night. Integrated card payment is in development and is not available on live sites, so no card money moves through Zynthio. That also means there is no card refund flow yet, and no gift cards, stored value or loyalty balances.
